Difficulty Level: Basic
Government Contractors work hard within the confines of the government's rules to maximize cost recovery on their contracts. Recovering direct costs of contract performance is straightforward, but recovering indirect costs is equally important and requires a blend of art and science. There are many unique indirect rate structures in the industry, but there are several underlying principles that apply to all. Understanding the essentials of indirect rate structures can help contracts achieve their cost recovery goals while complying with the rules. This session will address key terminologies, definitions of direct and indirect costs, allowable and unallowable costs, rate structures, rate elements, and the life cycles of indirect rates.
